Prompt: image of a biodiversity builder talking about the importance of nature on a TED stage
Writing these lines right before boarding the train to Paris to Change Now.
First, should you even go? Depends.
a) If you are in the discovery phase, want to connect with others or need more leads, go.
b) If you have a nature project & there are currently massive issues, don't waste your time.
# 1 Chose
Rather than going to all nature events under the sun, choose only those that you get the most out of in terms of fun, knowledge, leads etc. Don't let FOMO get the best of you.
I know these posts "I go to XXXX" are lame. Yet they signal to others that go too that you will be there. Allowing you to meet more great people there.
# 3 Host
Most people only show up to such events. To get more out of them, be the one who organizes dinner, breakfast, coffee, nature activities, etc. Will help you to bring cool people together & get to know them more deeply. I did this for this week, and by now, we are 41 biodiversity builders, and I am hosting 3 events.
# 4 Research
Search who will be there and reach out to them in advance. Many people I talk with only start doing this 1 day before or at the event. Allowing only little wiggle room to make it happen.
# 5 Pitch
Sharpen your nature pitch before you go because you will do plenty at such events. Tried to sharpen mine before whichyou can use as a template:
"I'm Oliver, biodiversity builder and founder of Wildya (IDENTITY). For the past years, I’ve been helping ecopreneurs grow their visibility, revenue, and impact. I’ve worked with nature ventures across sectors, from grassroots NGOs to nature tech startups (WHAT I DO). I’m also a LinkedIn Top Green Voice, where I write regularly for 37,000 people. I speak at events like this about biodiversity and co-authored a Kindle bestselling book on sustainable business (CREDIBILITY). My mission is to help ecopreneurs become impact millionaires rewilding 1M bison, restoring 1M corals, removing 1M kg of plastic & co.(MY MISSION)"
# 6 Talk
If you can, try to get on stage with your nature idea. Will expose your nature idea to more people and provide you withmore credibility. Sometimes, simply reaching out to the organizers months in advance can do the job. You might have tostart with smaller events first.
# 7 Enjoy
These conferences are often hectic. Make sure you block a time slot where you can just enjoy being surrounded by people who also want to make the world wilder.
I am actually writing this and answer to all your mails. Would love to know which nature conferences you will go nexttoo, so I can meet you.
Mine this year so far:
See you there?
Have a wild weekend!
Best,
Oli
